Blue Bird Corporation announced that a faulty starter cable could start a fire and would fix the problem this spring.

The NHTSA recall affects nearly 4,000 Type C conventional Vision school buses manufactured from June 26, 2003 through Dec. 9, 2004. The model years are 2004 through 2006. The starter cable may contact and potentially chafe against the steel braided steering hose. A short could result.

The company said it would notify customers that dealers will inspect the Vision buses for proper clearance between the starter cable and power steering hose. If problems are found, a clamp will be installed to prevent the contact between the starter cable and steering hose.

The recall is expected to begin by mid May.
