FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro is scheduled to speak to motorcoach professionals during this month's United Motorcoach Association Expo in Tampa, Fla., an event that will also invariably include much discussion on the current state of a proposed rule on enhanced motorcoach safety.

Ferro will present an overview on Jan. 20 on FMCSA's new CSA 2010 program designed to improve commercial bus and truck safety in regard to vehicle maintenance and driver compliance. CSA 2010 went nationwide last month. Ferro will also discuss distracted driving and the federal pre-employment screening program for drivers.

Meanwhile, a NHTSA proposed rule closed in October with comments from across the nation on safety enhancements that include seat belts and improved vehicle crash protection. Federal legislation was also introduced several years ago, but the latest efforts to pass it through Congress failed late last year.
