Denise Donaldson of Safe Ride News, which sponsors and manages the online bulletin board, said many students should ride school buses while secured in child safety restraint systems because they are too small or young and have special transportation needs. As a result, they often don’t benefit from compartmentalization between cushioned, high-back school bus seats. The listserv is an extention of Safe Ride’s “The School Bus Safety Handbook” and school bus child safety restraint system training provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“People in all areas of this field, from manufacturers to transportation managers to drivers, will benefit from this way to find support from others working toward the same goals,” Donaldson wrote in an email to prospective subscribers.
